World English Bible - WEB
The World English Bible (WEB) is a free updated revision of the American Standard Version (ASVIt is a modern-English translation of the entire Bible, distributed electronically to the public. Created by volunteers, the WEB is designed to be easily understood by English-speakers worldwide, without the need for data-processing or computer operating system-specific internationalizations.
The project began in 1997 and was initially known as the American Standard VersionIt aims to provide a modern English Bible version that is not copyrighted, avoiding archaic English and Basic English translations. The WEB follows the ASV's decision to transliterate the Tetragrammaton, using "Yahweh" instead of "Jehovah" throughout the Old Testament. The British and Messianic Names editions, as well as the Apocryphal books and New Testament, use traditional forms.
Based on the 1901 American Standard Version, the Greek Majority Text, and the Hebrew Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia, the WEB includes minor adjustments from alternate readings found in the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Septuagint. The translation process involved multiple passes of editing and proofreading, with an initial automated pass updating archaic words and phrases. The application offers offline functionality, search capabilities, adjustable font size, and the ability to create unlimited tabs for specific verses or books. Additionally, users can copy or send highlighted passages and scroll through the volume buttons.
